Exploring Dimensions: Portraits and Portals
Our Vision
Portraits and Portals will unfold over the course of a year, pairing eight disabled artists and creatives of color with eight disaster survivors of color. Together, these unique collaborations will explore the raw realities of crisis while celebrating the resilience and humanity that emerge in the face of adversity. Each artistic work will become a “portal,” offering a space for reflection, healing, and hope.
Why This Project Matters
At the epicenter of disasters—whether hurricanes, wildfires, pandemics, or systemic failures—people of color with disabilities often experience compounding risks. Yet, their voices and stories are rarely centered. Portraits and Portals seeks to change this by creating a platform where these experiences are venerated, amplified, and transformed into art that connects, educates, and inspires.
What to Expect
This curated series will embrace the creative freedom of its contributors, allowing them to tell stories that challenge societal norms, honor survival, and envision new possibilities for disabled bodies, minds, and dreams. The art produced will serve as both a reflection of the past and a reimagining of the future—a powerful reminder of the strength found at the intersection of identity, adversity, and community.
